Gliese 581d - The New Earth: "

A rocky alien planet called Gliese 581d may be the first known world beyond Earth capable of supporting life as we know it, a new study suggests.

Now that we have stopped funding NASA for human space flight I do not see us traveling to Gliese 581d anytime soon, but I can see launching some robot ships containing supplies, satellites, and other slow going ventures to be used well into the future. While we may eventually find ourselves behind in the space race as a country, the private sector might be the best place to look for further development of an actual colony of any kind on another planet.

Personally I do not see how if we cannot figure out how to adequately run the planet we live on now, Earth, what makes us think we will do any better with a brand new one? Half of the people now-a-days cannot even agree on evolution vs. creationism or global warming vs. hoax. I think the idea of Gliese 581d is just another sci-fi pipe dream for many, but you never know where tomorrow will lead us.
