President Barack Obama told U.S. Coast Guard graduates Wednesday to prepare for years filled with vital but dangerous tasks, tempering congratulations and praise with words of caution about a world full of threats.
Speaking at the academy's graduation ceremony in New London, Conn., Obama told the 229 cadets of the class of 2011 that the Coast Guard has become one of the nation's first responders, leading the evacuation of lower Manhattan after 9/11 and helping after last year's devastating Haiti earthquake and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
More recently, Coast Guard officers helped whisk Americans to higher ground against a surging Mississippi River.
The Coast Guard also had a HUGE role under the Regan, Bush Sr., and Clinton Presidencies when the CIA and DEA smuggled billions of dollars worth of Crack Cocaine into the country to sell in poor African-American communities. This fact was best presented in the movie, American Drug War: The Last White Hope. I will warn you that this is NOT a comfortable movie to watch, but it has a lot of good information that everyone should know about our government.
Does Obama plan to use the Coast Guard in the same, or similar, way? Now that it looks like we will be moving troops out of Afghanistan and shuffling them over to eventually fight in what is shaping up to be WWIII starting possibly with Pakistan we will have a need to move all the Opium that we are looting from the fields, Why are we keeping the Afghan Opium you ask? We are hoarding away from China in order to avoid paying back our debt, but that is a whole other blog.
Obama swears his administration stands for 'transparency' but since he took office it feels like there has been more secrecy then with any other president in history. Instead of Birth Certificate t-shirts maybe he should be selling dime store x-ray specks from MAD Magazine as his Campaign Gear.
