Welcome to Newt Gingrich's Version of Obamacare

Republican presidential contender Newt Gingrich on Monday said Alzheimer's disease is on pace to cost the government some $20 trillion over the next four decades and said boosting federal research money would be a wise investment.

Gingrich, the top Republican in the House during the 1990s, is mounting a presidential campaign on the premise he is a policy heavyweight who can lead a fractured GOP field. His speech to Alzheimer's advocates meeting in the capital largely eschewed politics but made clear his hopes to run as an idea man.

Call me selfish, but being that I live with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), a neurological disease, everyday I would like to see the money that politicians throw at these diseases end in CURES and NOT TREATMENTS! All this 'Research' funding ever does is line the pockets of the already filthy rich BIG PHARMA Corporations and their Executives. Gingrich may or may not be in on this 'make the rich richer' scheme, I am not going to pretend to know his true intentions here, but everyone involved should know upfront that this is just one more way to launder tax payer dollars away from where it needs to be. We are in MASSIVE DEBT and yet Gingrich wants to concentrate on this waste of time... really?

Healthcare costs, Medicare/Medicaid, and Prescription Drug Plans would at least become controllable if we did a few SIMPLE things that no one will entertain and thus we will continue to spiral into this abyss of spending.

1. Legalize Drugs. ALL Drugs. This means that people can buy their Asthma Inhalers and Heart Medication over-the-counter just as easily as they buy a box of cold pills. Now I am not suggesting we have NO REGULATION at all, of course narcotics and muscle relaxers would be sold to ADULTS and only to children with prescription, however this would cut down visits to Hospitals and Doctors and in the end cut the cost of the medication.

For those people who are worried about 'street drugs' becoming available in their local Walgreens allow me to blow your mind! Crystal Meth, Speed, is available from your pharmacist as a low blood pressure pill, and it used to be prescribed regularly as a diet pill! Synthetic THC, the primary ingredient in marijuana, is available for a whole list of problems and even more products in your neighborhood stores are made of HEMP which comes from the cannibus plant.

2. Funding research for CURES rather then offering governmental grant money for researching disease effects and using money to develop medication to ease or solve "symptoms" of disease would save the medical industry trillions of dollars on a variety of levels. Not only would LESS MONEY be wasted on unnecessary research and development of dangerous BIG PHARMA medications, but millions of people who suffer everyday would either be cured or be allowed to pass without being poked and prodded potentially making the end of their life even more miserable enduring the side effects of these substandard BIG PHARMA false hopes.

3. Developing a system where the 'Doctor' could once again do 'Home Visits' would eliminate the need for organizations like Child Protection Services (CPS/CYF) and free up billions more dollars that could be applied to our nation deficit. If medical professionals visited families in their homes and were permitted to work in conjunction with local police departments there would be no need for these intrusive child protection agencies that have a history of getting things wrong more often then right. In this simple CHANGE we would SAVE MONEY, increase the importance of the doctor/patient relationship, cut waste from government bureaucracy, and better protect our children.
