The Road
(2009) - tale of a man and his son trying to survive by any means possible.
The thing I like most about this movie is the real life complications the main characters are forced to deal
with. Not only are they presented with the hardships that would befall anyone
after a major disaster, but they handle moral dilemmas as well.
The
Colony (TV Show/Series) - What would you do in the wake of a global
catastrophe? Even if you survived it, could you survive the aftermath? The
Colony puts together groups of unlikely people and drops them into a survival
simulation meant to mimic what many of us fear may be what it may be like in
the end of days. (Want to volunteer for

King's 'The Stand' (TV Mini Series) - After the world is decimated by a
man-made plague, a battle of literally Biblical proportions ensues between the
survivors. Although the overall story line is biblical it does not force
“religion” down your throat. Also it is important to note that like most book
to movie adaptations the literary version is far superior but as a stand alone
piece no other movie is going to get you thinking about preparation then this
film. Set aside a few nights though, because this one is really, really, really
long!

The
Trigger Effect (1996) - How tenuous is man's hold on civilization when
survival becomes an issue? When the lights go out and stay out for several
days, suburbanites Matthew and Annie learn the hard way that man is 'by
nature' a predatory creature. Matthew's long-time friend, Joe, happens by
on the second day and a rivalry between the two friends simmers as Annie cares
for her sick baby. When rumors of looting spread through the neighborhood, the
two men buy a rifle for protection but Annie throws it in the pool. Later, that
same night, Joe hears a prowler downstairs and awakens Matthew. They chase the
stranger from the house and out into the street where a neighbor shoots him to
death. No longer safe in their own home, they decide to drive to Annie's
parents some 500 miles away. Before they reach their destination, more trouble
comes their way when they stop to siphon gas from an abandoned car and discover
the driver in the back seat... Is this what is meant by 'man's inhumanity
to man?'

America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving
humankind.
Red Dawn - is a 1984 American war film
directed by John Milius and co-written by Milius and Kevin Reynolds. It stars Patrick
Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Lea
Thompson, C. Thomas Howell and Charlie
Sheen. The film is set in an alternate
1980s in which the
United
States is invaded by the Soviet Union and its Latin
American allies (specifically Cuba and Nicaragua). However, the onset of World
War III is merely in the background and not fully elaborated. The story
follows a group of American high school students who resist the occupation with
guerrilla warfare, calling themselves Wolverines,
after their high school mascot.
Cloverfield
- A going-away party in Manhattan is interrupted when a mysterious monster of
epic proportions launches an attack on New York City. With camcorder in hand, a
small group of friends make their way out into the chaotic streets, scrambling
to stay alive. Mike Vogel, Lizzy Caplan, Jessica Lucas, Michael Stahl-David,
Odette Yustman and T.J. Miller star in this frenetic sci-fi thriller directed
by Matt Reeves.
I Am
Legend - Years after a plague kills most of humanity and transforms the
rest into monsters, the sole survivor in New York City struggles valiantly to
find a cure.

Hours - A mountain climber becomes trapped under a boulder while
canyoneering alone near Moab, Utah and resorts to desperate measures in order
to survive.
Night of
the Comet - A comet wipes out most of life on Earth, leaving two Valley
Girls to fight the evil types who survive. This movie allows us to “indulge” in
what we would all like to do if we woke up and were the only people left on
earth. An endless shopping spree is on every girls mind, regardless of what she
will admit too, but what happens when the fun and games are all over?

Waterworld
- In a future where the polar ice caps have melted and most of Earth is
underwater, a mutated mariner fights starvation and outlaw 'smokers,'
and reluctantly helps a woman and a young girl try to find dry land.
The
Postman - Gordon Krantz survived the Doomwar only to spend years crossing a
post-apocalypse United States looking for something or someone he could believe

Wild - After graduating from Emory University, top student and athlete
Christopher McCandless abandons his possessions, gives his entire $24,000
savings account to charity and hitchhikes to Alaska to live in the wilderness.
Along the way, Christopher encounters a series of characters that shape his
life.

Lost (TV
Show/Series) - is an American television series that originally aired on
the American Broadcasting Company (ABC)
between 2004 and 2010, consisting of six seasons. Lost is a drama series that follows the lives of various
individuals and groups of people, most importantly the survivors of the crash
of a commercial passenger jet flying between Sydney and Los Angeles,
on a mysterious tropical island somewhere in the South Pacific Ocean.
The story is told in a heavily serialized manner. Episodes typically
feature a primary storyline on the island, as well as a secondary storyline
from another point in a character's life.

Armageddon
- When an asteroid the size of Texas is headed for Earth the world's best deep
core drilling team is sent to nuke the rock from the inside. More cinematic
entertainment then survival prep, but good for psychological and emotional
preparation and conditioning. I still cannot watch without crying.
